Hi guys

I'm a female traveller going solo around the southern gulf islands in Thialand. I'm planning on just hopping between KO smui, Ko Tao and Ko phan gan. I would like some advice on good accomoodation for solo travellers, particularly in ko tao and ko phan gan. I would also like to know where is good for solo travllers in the evenings. I am staying in the north of samui right now and all I can see in the evening is couples out for dinner and thia girls in bars who look like they are at work! I would just like to meet somefellow backpackers, particularly Irish and just some good places to hang out.

I would really appreciate any advice.

Apologies for the bad typing the internet speed is terrible out here!

You might want to open up your criteria , from what i read you want to meet only single people,no one with a prozzie AND they've got to be a mick ! No wonder you aint meeting people.

To answer your question though, you'd be better off on Ko Phangan than ko Tao, theres loads of solo travellers there and its not hard to meet up and make friends, theres even an Irish pub in Thongsala on the harbour front as you step off the boat its to your right.

Why not just take the boat from Samui to Ko phangan and walk into this pub and ask around, just make sure the ferry to KPG is the one that stops at Thong Sala not Haad Rin.

Good luck

Haha it's not like that at all Lincoln...I'd be happy to hang out with anyone as long as they're not trying to solicit me for work! It's the first time I've undertaken this type of trip and I'm just learning as I go! I'm not at all set on meeting other Irish people but it's always nice to meet someone who can at least speak your language and take it from there.

Based on what I have been reading, I thought most solo travellers head to Haad Rin? Is Thongsala a quieter spot and if so how easy is it to get from Thong sala to Haad Rin? I hear the road between the two places is a bit dodge

Haad rin is ok to meet other people but it is a full on party place, i'm becoming an old b'startd so its not my thing anymore,i mentioned Thonsala because of the Irish connection ,its not really a place to stay .To be honest anywhere low budget to mid budget will be fine for you to meet people. As you are seeing in Samui the more upmarket you go people tend to keep themselves to themselves(just an opinion). Why not get an earlyish boat to KPG , go check out the Paddy bar and have a chat with them or just pick a place in Haad rin and see how you go? I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for.Just be open and smile and it will come your way.

Good luck mate

Thong Nai Pan is a good area usually with a fair few travellers, tends to be nicer than Had Rin.
Had Sadet and Thong Reng a bit south of Sadet are more traveller type beaches. So too are the beaches just north of Had Rin around Had Thian (east coast one)
Got more info and pix of these places on 2 pages HERE - last visited this past August.
