Hi
We are hoping to get married in Koh Samui mid december. We have been to Thailand a number of times and absolutely love Koh Samui. Usually the weather doesnt bother us but we are hoping to get married next year in mid december. We have been reading alot about rain in december. Can anyone tell us if it is just showers cause showers dont bother us. We're from ireland and we're used to rain but we are hoping that the weather would be semi decent. Any other tips or suggestions are greatly welcomed,
Claire

Have been many times to Samui at different periods over the years. The overall calendar will tell you that rain will stop within the first days of december (about the 5th/6th) - and really it did stop 6 or 7 years ago exactly on that days. But I remember many PM of LP community seeking for a dry location somewhere in Thailand 'cause in their holiday at Samui it was constantly raining for over 2 weeks. This was about 2 years ago...
When it's raining at Samui expect real heavy rainfalls, but generally only for some hours at rather fixed times (maybe late evenings) or during the night. And at Monsoon rains you don't want to be outside.
That's what I noticed there from my personal experience, from some 10 holidays at Samui since 1994.

Not to forget: on Samui you will find different micro climate regions. There maybe raining cats and dogs at Chaweng - and at Menam the weather will be fine and sunny at the same time - because of all the hills in the middle of the island.

Claire,

Samui is currently experiencing a bad weather stretch, see my Samui weather blog, first link below, but normally in December it's not as bad, just showers mixed with sunshine.

Rain is a symbol of fertility, purification and abundance.

  1. You are so right!! The weed is growing in abundance. But OP, this should be finished mid of December. And till then I hopefully got rid of the weed.
