Hi, I wasn't sure exactly where to post this, so I hope this is okay!

I heard that it is currently impossible to get a Chinese tourist visa in Bangkok unless you are residing in Thailand for six months or more, or have residency status there.

A friend of a friend tried to apply there but was told to return to his country to apply for a Chinese tourist visa!

Does anyone know if this is true, a new permanent rule, or if there's any way around it?

Thank you for your help!

By the way, I'm travelling on a New Zealand passport and have had several Chinese tourist visas before, both from NZ and from other countries. lately they've been getting more difficult to acquire from abroad though. Hmm.

As you say, this is becoming more common in many countries. It used to be easy to get visas for China nearly everywhere;not any more.

Hard to say if it is 'permanent' or not..depends a lot on what is going on inside China in that moment. But at the nmoment, that is the situation.....

I know there were problems up until May 26th with getting visas elsewhere in SEA. Hanoi was one place that wasnt issuing them. Vientiane I think was another. You can email someone like Forever Bright in Hong Kong and ask them on the availability of getting one there if all else fails. But try Chiang Mai beforehand.

Thanks Lucapal and Westwood for the help.

I emailed Forever Bright already and found them very difficult to deal with - they sent me dozens of auto-response emails that didn't answer any of my questions or acknowledge my situation. I felt like they didn't even read my email or questions at all!

They are ok...I've done it there in person, without problems.
