Yes; I was surprised it lasted as long as it did.
It was a picture of a few lines and was asking for to get it to US. Someone posted it for laughs.

Expats who are too keen to be in Thailand are time and time again the very same expats who fail to meet targets of skills and knowledge transfer
After living and working in a few different countries in Europe and Asia, I've noticed that the less developed (and hotter) a country is, the lower the expat skill set is on average. Note I said average - obviously there are plenty of exceptions.

If you have any skill what so ever you can make money of it as an entrepreneur or freelance worker and get paid in dollars. All it takes is some startup time and money.

Who goes to Thailand for serious work anyway. We go to live here for the women, booze and beaches. Sort of the same as living in central america right?
Except they got cheap coca there. Its a Hemmingway lifestyle thats appealing not a salaryman lifestyle.

Ditto what Jackpowers said. Try "The Rum Diaries," by Hunter S. Thompson for a good read. Cheers!
Kananga, I do not see any conflict in what I have posted about Saudi Arabia. Firstly I still regard Saudi Arabia to be far better than almost all the second hand accounts one hears of the place. And I do not see any reason why my opinion of Saudi Arabia (or anywhere else for that matter) should not change - in fact it would be odd if my opinions on a place did not change.
My posting was for 8 months and I wound up spending almost 2 years there. Getting sucked into spending almost three times as much time in the Desert as was agreed, does change one's view.
However I still maintain, Saudi Arabia offers a better working environment than does Thailand.

Some of us do, and when it comes down to serious business and decisions that can effect your career then weeding out the 'Chancers' becomes a necessity.
Why choose a second rate expat (Refer JJack's observation) when you can have a first class Thai?
I agree with your last comment competely (and you have to forgive my rather naughty example of how your views of SA changed on the space of 18 months :-) I suppose being there that long would change the views of any man)
I still think you should view the applications of each application on their own merits instead of assuming or portraying that all expats are out for an easy ticket and willing to destroy the local work force in the process.
Kananga, your old enough to know the world is not fair - and I expect you understand the point I have made that foreigners who are desperate to remain in Thailand make for pretty poor work mates. Hence my point that working in Thailand is not all that it's cracked up to be.
My views on Saudi Arabia have changed - why would anyone expect that two years in a country would not change one's views - speaking from experience, as a working environment it is far better than Thailand - Not having to work with ass wipes who will do anything to keep their jobs makes up for the lack of social life.
How much have my views changed - well not so much that I would not go back there. To put that in perspective, I certainly would not take a cut in pay to be in Thailand even if the alternative was Saudi Arabia.
And don't get me wrong - I'm not against giving foreigners a chance - If I was looking for an expat to take a post in Thailand I'd take any of the guys I worked with in Saudi over some guy who came on holiday to Thailand and doesn't want to go home - It is, as you mention, all about judging people on their merits - Guys you can depend on get first choice.
Long Term Expats in Thailand - Honestly nearly everyone I've ever met is either a chancer or running away from something (often both) - Not at all nice people to work with.
Do people distill their own moonshine in Saudi? Can a guy get laid there?
I guess people do still distill their own moonshine, but why bother when brand name spirits are so readily available for those who have difficulty abiding by the local laws.
Guys can certainly get laid - Though it might not be to your particular taste - Only a fool would believe locking up all the women stops the men having sex.
