Are you going to keep fighting when you get to Samui, or stop fighting when you get there?

Drink, get drunk. Avoid getting robbed or stabbed.

Is the Reggae pub still there? And Green Mango.

Find yourself a lady for the night, or two nights. Don't go over two, you'll fall in love and that will be the end of you.

Yes, both are still there.

I know there are a few Muay Thai camps on Samui if you're big into fighting.

Hi,

Anyone got any serious replies for the guy? Simple mistake or two and the urge to take the P cannot be resisted. OK take it then please give some helpful info for a first time traveller. Canno help you myself OP never been there. Have been to Thailand many times, diving and trekking was ok and I enjoy the country. Can only assume that the places you mention will also be enjoyable. Happy travels.

Hi Daniel,

it's been quite a few years since I was on Koh Samui but from what I remember there is quite a built-up area at Chaweng beach that has a big party vibe, with lots of shops, beach bars and so on. If you go there, you should expect a very lively resort with lost of western travellers and drunkenness. The beach is very beautiful and there is good food to be found, although there are some duff restaurants too. A lot of people rent scooters to explore the island; I would advise against this.

I believe there is lots of exploring to do on the rest of the island, but I was young and drunk so I didn't get past Chaweng. Hopefully some other posters can enlighten you on this.

samui is big for resorts if that is your thing. also lobster thermidor and pizza. lamai not so bad get a bike and explore. not a big place you will figure it out when you get there. dont pay too much when you get off the boat many get ripped off there.

Lots of people on this forum knock Samui and say it is too commercialised and developed. That neighbouring Ko Phangan and Ko Tao are the better bet. While agreeing on the last point, I reckon Samui is a real nice island with lots of beaches some of which are still very relaxed, and plenty of things to do. Even the big two beaches, Chaweng and Lamai are real nice once on the beach - the hotels behind are low rise boutique style not Pattaya high-rise Miami clones, and the sand and water are pretty sweet. Sure, some of the town areas are a bit tacky, but fine if you want to party hard or tune a Thai bargirl or three.
Got a lot of pix and info on Samui from many visits there HERE might help your planning. Check the first pix for a reasonably priced place in a wonderful position.

Something like that. Remember when you had to cross that rickety old bridge across the swamp to get to it.

Those were the nights...
