We are planning our family trip in July 2018 for 2 weeks in Thailand

We are a family early 30s parents and 5 years old boy

I thought 5 days in Bangkok and the rest would be on a beach

I know that Samui will have a better weather in July but since its our first time in Thailand i was thinking of taking the risk and spend it in Phuket because we want to experience all the island day trips, fantasea shows and different activities that are found in phuket, plus the HUGE hotel bargains in Phuket

Because from searching around, i got the feeling that there is not much to do in Samui especially with a 5 years old.

Basically we like to spend our days on the beach with nice sands and views ( no deep swimming, only on the tip of the shore with my son)

We're not into scuba diving or hiking

Maybe water activities that are children friendly, day trips and exploring the island in the afternoon to try local foods and night life. As i got the feelings that there is much to do in Phuket other than beach so it would be good if the weather is not in our favor. Contrary to Samui which has less activities i guess

Am i thinking the right way or should i save ourselves the hassle and head to Samui?

Also, would 50,000 BAHT would be enough for our 14 nights trip including activities, trips, food (we dont drink alcohol)?

Excluding airplane tickets, hotels and domestic flights

Also, i was wondering if some activities will be suitbale for 5 years old like zip lining, kayaking and other water sports

Thank you

Phuket and Samui are fine. You might want to proceed to Phuket and try those activities, then decide to go to Samui if you didn't like it there. Budget is fine if you don't spend much but you may want to stretch it further just to be on the safe side. Safe travels!

Three and a half thousand baht a day for daily living is fine for most part but is dependent on what and how many activts you do. You could do a Google search and should be able to get prices for a lot of activities. Trip Advisor is also a good source for activities.

it will be difficult to move around a lot as it will be expensive and wasting our time between airports, thats why i was hoping i could decide on a destination to the most part of our vacation

Thank you!

I always find trip advisor very expensive when giving an indication of the prices of activities, thats why i thought to asking people with experience

Thank you!

To make the most of your holiday, I would plan around the rainy season. Fly into Phuket and out of Surat thani, so you are not stuck in Phuket in the rain. If you get lucky, and like Phuket, spend 10 days or so there, and perhaps a couple of nights in Khao Sok National park, en route to Surat thani. If continued bad weather is forecast in Phuket, get a bus and boat to Koh Samui. The weather is so unpredictable, keeping your options open makes sense.

Zip lining is dangerous.

Boats and ferries on the Phuket side often don't run in the summer months due to the rough seas.
