Hello, where would be a good place to buy electronics (specifically, I'm looking for an external hard drive) in Bangkok? If anybody has bought one for a laptop recently and can give me a feel for an acceptable price, that would be great also. Thank you.

Pantip Plaza: http://www.into-asia.com/bangkok/shopping/pantip.php. Probably the best place in Bangkok to buy anything electronic, although there's a slight emphasis on bootleg software and factory-reconditioned used hardware. Prices on imported peripherals aren't generally that good, though--expect to pay only a little less (perhaps as much as 15-20% less if you shop carefully) than you'd pay at home.

yeah, the deals aren't very good there. It's OK but nothing great. And the noise level will put you on edge. I've heard that Singapore is much better (but no sense going there for a hard drive). Places like newegg.com in the US have much better prices I think, but I don't think they ship out of the US.

Pantip ugh!
Mad place. Nothing I've bought there ever works.
Prefer Fortune town: cleaner, more organised, saner.
right next to an MTR station too: Phra Ram 9
I've looked for an external HD too, and in many Thai computer shops they sell adapter/box things which allow you to use an internal HD as an external via USB connector. Internal HDs are cheaper and Thais don't often have wads of cash so this method has caught on. I have yet to try it out myself though. Just so you know that external HDs may be hard to find, whereas in the US they are abundant and cheap.
