I will be visiting Chiang Mai coming by trin from BKK and spending a few days before going on to Myanmar. Are there any areas there which are similayr to Patpong, Soi Cowboy or nana Place which I should avoid at all costs if I am a God feaing, American Loving, Republican Voting hetrosexual. Please be specific with the location so I know exactly how to stay away from them. Also let me know.
George Bush and I thank you.

The Loi Kroh road hosts the vast majority of Chiang Mai's more colourful nightlife. But its a long long way from patpong, its tame, really. Typically just a bar with a handful of hostesses who will leave you alone if thats the way you want it. Its on the eastern side of the moat about half way down heading away from the old city. Stay for as long as you can in Chiang Mai, its the best place in Thailand!

i looked REALLY hard for anything like patpong last time i was in chiangmai. i couldn't find anything. i DID find a couple of japanese hostess bars (no white people allowed) and the chiangmai cafe/massage parlour. but they were all in the back away fom the really touristy places.

no i looked at his posts. i think he's serious...or facetious in an effort to cover up his most wild desires. a typical conservative: puritan in public, nipple pincher in private.

i don't know if you're serious, but if dubbya tried to thank me i'd spit in his face. when you meet the wonderful people of BURMA, can you apologize to them for him too?

#4 It's Myanmar, not Burma.

It is Nana Plaza not Place so I hope you did not go there by mistake.

I think it is worth 4/10 because it covers morality, politics, America, George(not always the same) and sexual tendencies...wow good dinner party debate!

Kananga- When the Burmese gained independence after WWII, it was called the Union of Burma. It wasn't until the junta decided to switch names in the late '80s that Burma was refered to as Myanmar. Those who wish not to recognize the junta refer to it as Burma. So Kananga, what would you like to call it?

To be fair Kananga, I used to call it Myanmar too. That was before I gained an informed interest in what goes on inside Burma's borders after going there in 2005. You and taniquan can check out the pics at Burma Archive I and at Burma Acrchive II

> Does Chiang Mai have any areas like Patpong

Sure, the Night Bazar. Just doesn't have the gogo bars, but that's not what Patong seems about these days anyway.

(There is one gogo bar tucked away in the soi running South-North alongside the Night Bazar road on the West side of it. It's called Foxy Lady, near the back side of the fancy D2 hotel.)

The other (and best) gogo bar (Spotlight) is just South of Thapae on Kotchasarn road on the moat. Loads of shophouse bars around the corner on Loi Kroh.

Let me know if you need more places to avoid.

Cheers,
Chanchao

It's not that black and white.

I call it Burma though because that's closest to the Thai word for the place, and most people know the name.
