I am a day away from my travels to Thailand Sept 4-30 and finally stumbled upon this forum. I was wondering primarily just how "dead" it is in September if anyone has gone. Not that it really matters at this point I am excited and commited to my month long solo trip but would be nice to hear someones opinion if they have gone at this time. I know all about the rain and seems to be Eastern coast is hit heavy but still travelable (is that a word?) and the West coast is really nice regardless...

On a secondary note I am solo traveller for the entire month and am more than open to hanging out with fun adventerous fellow backpackers if anyone is in the area.

25yr
male
canadian
non-smoker (but has the occasional cigar here and there)
casual drinker (can party with the rest of them but am not looking to be blotto drunk the entire month)
Very open to activities (big diver) surfing, sailing, diving, climbing, beach hangouts, cruising the local area, whatever
Enjoys good conversation
Looking to meet some fun new people
Well travelled, first time to Thailand
Backpacking but am not looking for only the cheapest accomodation open to a bit of everything

Itinerary is still very open, I have a family member in Pattaya for a week that I will be seeing briefly but then will try to go see as much of Thailand as I can. If your in Thailand and want to grab some brews hit me up.

P.S, I would still love to hear someones opinion on September travel either way.

OP other way around, East coast has generally better weather than West in September.
I have been in the Gulf islands in September several times and it has always been comparatively very quiet, last year included.

Every group has its own dynamics, if you can't see the idiot then it's probably you.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think :-D

There are a lot of people this year in Thailand during the rainy season. I've never seen so many travelers in Chiang Mai this time of year. I was told that up in Pai, it's hard to get a room as there are so many tourists. It seems as people are finally catching on to the fact that the rainy season isn't all that bad. Some of the islands on the west coast are closed down and the gulf islands (at least those off the southern peninsula) have the better weather.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Yeah sorry I had my east and west flipped around. I'm glad to hear it though, I've been saing in alot of monsoon season areas and it's always been fantastic weather with some wicked thunderstorms every night but nothing that would stop me from repeating the travel at that time of year. I'm just hoping ill still be able to meet some people which I'm sure I'm just being overly cautious.

Im sure you will meet plenty of people if you are also backpacking the backpacking community in Thailand is pretty big, everyone is very friendly and always open to making new friends :)
In regards to the weather we often travel in October which is monsoon season but we never had much of an issue with weather, hot during the day and stormy at night!

Have fun!

We are two English girls in Ao nang and the rain is torrential and doesn't look like its gonna let up.
We are desperate for ideas of what to do other than nap and this feed popped up, anyone any suggestions?
At the moment drinking is seeming the best option.
Thanks

The Andaman coast is going to be the worst place to be around this time of year. Go east to the Gulf islands or come up to central and northern Thailand where it's more mild.

I have been here in thailand for about a week now and so far am quite pleased with the weather. I stayed in phuket first for five days and yes it did rain but only for small periods of time remaining very warm and then usually clearing for the rest or several hours of the day. Nights were nice and dry surprisingly. In pattaya until about the 17th been fairly dry with large storms just off the coast. Very quiet though. Perhaps it's where I'm staying. Not exactly bright shining sun all day long but warm and pleasant. Still getting a good tan with cloud cover.

I have no set plans for the rest of the month once I'm done here in pattaya. I was considering going down to ko pha nag (however you spell it) and ko tao for the end of my trip around sept 17-29. If the weather is anything like what I've had so far it's enjoyable. Still the occasional rain but nothing that had kept up for long. If you are interested in speaking more about your September travels or even would like to say hi to a fellow traveller message me we could potentially cross paths. Either way sorry to hear its not good out there, drinking however is never really a bad thing.
