Hello folks,

I'm going to travel a couple of weeks in Vietnam next year April, since the didving there is supposed to be not very spectacular, I wanna spend 2 more weeks after in Thailand for diving and relaxing.

I did some research already, but find many different opinios. What would be the best place for diving in Thailand in May? Heard the monsoon time is beginning in the Gulf of Thailand, is it still ok or would it be better to head for the west coast?
I have around 60 dives, wanna take it easy, not going on a dive safari. I'm travelling with backpack but I'm in the forties so I'm not so much into the backpacker party crowd ;)

Thanky for any replies and safe travels!

The Gulf islands re good in May. Its just very hot. Definitely no the west coast islands then.

Agree with above Koh Tao is very good, Koh Phangan is much quieter but can be more expensive. I was diving in Koh Tao this July. I dived with Big Bubble who were excellent if you do the Padi course they are all Thai instructors which for various reason appealed to me. My only complaint was we booked accommodation through them and rooms they allocate are not so great, fairly cheap but we though we were getting a bungalow, when it was a room in a concrete block. The room itself was comfortable and quite large, with a good shower, but quite dark. Not great when your wife was not diving, but for a single guy fine.

The best diving on Thailand is in the Andaman Sea. Sea Dragon, and I'm sure other dive shops are still going in early May
