hey..

so my partner and I are catching a plane to surat thani airport and we need to get to the ferry to koh samui... what is the easiest/cheapest way to get to the ferry station thing??

also, is it worth checking out surat thani for a couple of hours? or would you just recommend going straight to samui?

thanks
Jess and Clay.

There is nothing to see in Surat Thani .I am sure when you arrive at the Airport there will be mini van options to the port .

Did that same trip a couple of months ago. Arrived mid afternoon at Surat Thani airport and there were two buses waiting for the tourist filled plane. One for Samui, one for Ko Phangan. You get the bus ride to Don Sak ferry port and ticket for a few hundred baht, honestly can't remember. The ferry ride is appx 1.5 hours to Samui, 2 to KP. There is really nothing at all to do or see in Surat Thani, skip it. It's an ok town but zero todo. The whole trip is painless.

Indeed, busses to Don Sak (ferry port)
Seatran is best option. It lands in Nathon.
Raja ferry lands in Lipa Noi. Sometimes no taxi's available.

So I assume we don't need to book anything in advance? And we can walk on the ferry?

Was going to fly directly from BKK to Samui, but way too exey, cheaper to fly to ST....

Is it really painless though? Travelling with 70 year old mom....she won't mind the ferry ride, so is it worth the extra time to save the $$ (about USD $160 difference).

Thanks for the help.

Also, anyone ever stay at the Mae Nam Village bungalows on Samui?
