We are 6 persons Staying o/night in Krabi Town mid/late April. We need to travel to Phi Phi Island the next morning, I am told that the boat transfer goes from from Khlong Chilat Pier in Krabi town.

Will I have to get tickets in advance or is it risky to get tickets at the pier on the day?
What times do the boats leave and what price?

My other questions, I shall be in Ao Nang on 03rd May and need to get to Koh Lanta.

Will the Passenger boats be travelling from Krabi Pier at this time?

If I need to get the Vehicle Ferry and travel via Mini Bus, do the mini buses go from Ao Nang?
thanks to all who can help

You will be able to get tickets at the pier, but any small travel agent or guesthouse in town can sell you them with the advantage of a free pick up from your accommodation and transfer to the pier.
I have a ferry timetable in my Krabi town page first link below - might be an idea to check it later because ferry frequency and departure tend to change moving into low season. The fare should be around 300-350.

In the past the Ao Nang - Lanta and Krabi town - Lanta boats have not run low season. This must change sometime soon because of increased tourism low season. The ferry info on kojumonline (link on my Jum page) is kept really up to date by that forum's administrator - he usually puts in a note saying when the boats stop - so maybe you could montitor that too. Jum is accessed from the Krabi-Lanta ferries.

The Lanta minibuses go from Soi 6 in Krabi town but there are lots of songthaews connecting from Ao Nang - just tell the guy you want the nearest stop to Soi 6 ([probably the big department store)/
