Do you think that sleeping on the floor in the middle isle of a bus where people need to walk if they need to get to the one tiny toilet on Thailand's roads at night is better than having access to a real bed and restaurant? Why would someone choose to do that?

You mentioned last saturday that there is a James Bond book with a character called chinstrap in it. That wording implied she wanted to get there quickly . Making a diversion to Surathani to catch a train is not the quickest way.

I explained I do it at times of night when everybody is fast asleep and the chance of someone getting up is low . And I position myself as much as possible not to be in the way ,and on some of the VIP buses there were spaces where I could lie down without being in the isle.. If the bus stops for a meal or refreshment stop the lights come on and I move out of the before I get in the way of people. As for why would anyone choose to do that , well some people do , and I mention it as an example of how you don't necessarily have to stay bolt upright in a bus .
