I can't decide where to base ourselves for 4 nights so its the easiest to island hop and site-see -- Krabi/Ao Nang, Kho Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, or Phuket? Or should we split the time between 2 islands?
At first, I was set on Krabi (based on other's advice) but am finding it pretty difficult to do Koh Lanta in a day tour from there since ferries/tours only run in the early half of the day. Is there a way to get back to Krabi in the afternoon?

What are you hoping to see apart from nice beaches ? I'd pick a nice one and stay put otherwise you're going to spend alot of your short time travelling. The islands you mention are not as close together as you seem to think. Lanta would probably be your best choice if you crave variety as it offers many beaches in one place.
