I've only been to Hat Rin and Thong Nai Pan Yai.

The former used to be beautiful but is populated by nobber imo. The latter is lovely but still not excatly picture perfect.

So what would you say is the best beach on the island, as there are lots of other choices that I haven't been to yet.

By 'best' I mean beautiful sand and sea, clean (especially important). These are the main criteria

Ease of access, facilities, nightlife (too much or too little), clientele, etc are not important imo. I just want to know the most beautiful. Any thoughts? I heard bottle beach was the way forward.

I was going to say Bottle Beach. (That's the next bay round from Chaloklam, right?)

I think Bottle Beach is beautiful but I still like Thong Nai Pan Yai better... there is a beach on the way to Thong Nai Pan that wasn't accessible until recently, by very bad road... I think it is called Had Nam Tok but I might be wrong... supposedly it is really gorgeous too but of course it would have no amenities there.

Hi Nikki, how's things going honey chick?

Moonlight used to bathe the contours of your face
While chestnut hair fell all around the pillow case
And the fragrance of your flowers rest beneath my head
A sympathy bouquet left with the love that's dead

And I wonder if you know
That I never understood
That although you said you'd go
Until you did I never thought you would

I will try bottle beach. There's loads of other beaches on this map, included the much talked about Haad Yao. Is that any good?

I haven't been to the Bottle Beach, so I would say Haad Yao as well. It is a quiet & extremely beautiful beach, I would say the definite tropical paradise. Also because it is located at the west coast it has a stunning sunset. And if you are into snorkeling there are some really nice corals very close to the beach, and there's a diving company at the beach as well. When I last went to Haad Yao there were mostly families & couples, quite different crowd from Had Rin. Only problem with the beach is by february water gets too shallow for swimming.

You can see my pictures of Haad Yao here: http://backpackinasia.com/rkophangan.htm

I like Than Sadet. It's a small, sandy bay, usually quiet, and looks great framed by big rocks. The sea gets deep quickly so it's good for swimming. It looks like it would be great for snorkelling too, although I have not snorkelled there. Access is by turning right at the major junction on the dirt road to Thong Nai Pan (signposted). Or you can get there by boat. Like Bottle Beach, it's relative isolation means that it's still relatively tranquil.

Anyway, if you're competent riding a dirt bike you can check out all these beaches for yourself when you arrive, and decide which one you would prefer to stay at.
