Hello there,
We're travelling to Thailand In January as a family (2 adults and 3 kids).
Can anyone tell us the quickest way to get to the Trang Islands? Is it better to fly into Trang or Krabi?
Also, any suggestions for family friendly mid-range accom on the Trang Islands gratefully received.
Thanks in advance for your travellers wisdom :)

From Don Mueng to Trang. If you go to Krabi you still have to get to Trang.
KK Travel in Trang (across from the train station can fix you up with all travel arrangements to the islands.) I suggest Koh Mook but stipulate that you wish to go Hat Farang otherwise you be put off at the island village and require transport to Hat Farang. HF is the best beach with the most affordable accommodation. The best food is at Mayow's Thai kitchen. Tell them Jimmy sent you. Good luck.

Avoid the first 2 places you will see upon landing at HF. Just walk through Charlie Beach Resort to the path leading to the village. There are a number of good cheaper options for accommodation and dining here. It's only a short walk to the beach.
CBR and Sawadee Resort on the beach are not good value for your money. Avoid both for dining, as said Mayow"s is good and further up the path the Hilltop is also a good option.

If you decide on Ko Muk/Mook then of the two airlines to Trang, Nok and AirAsia, it's better to go with Nok as you can get an all-inclusive flight/bus/ferry ticket (and get the later of the two morning flights - the ferry is the same time!). But if you want to go into Trang town first then it doesn't matter which airline, but book ASAP as there are still some good Promo fares for your travel period, which will be sold out if you delay.

Mook is a good choice. As noted above, Hat Farang is a lovely beach. Charlie Resort is the dominant joint, good bungalows on the beach, but a touch pricey. If you walk up the hill, you'll find cheaper spots, like Rubber Tree Bungalows.

If you have a higher budget. Ko Ngai is also very nice.

If you get a cheap flight to Krabi, its around $40 for the Tigerline ferry from Krabi to Mook. (Adult fare).

Thanks so much guys!!! you really rock.
I have another question if you have time to answer it...
Just wondering how much time we'll need to allow to get from the islands to our connecting flight in Bangkok returning home? We have an overnight international flight leaving from Bangkok around 9pm, so will need to be at Suvarnabhumi about 630pm. We can either head back to Bangkok the night before and overnight there, or if we stay on the island that night, how much time should we allow to get from the island, on to a Trang flight, then from Don Mueng to Suvarnabhumi? How regular are the ferries from the islands?
Bearing in mind we are travelling with three kids, the youngest aged three, and don't want to make the journey too exhausting for them before we have to spend the night on the plane. Does that make sense?
Also, we are not loaded but could probably afford to take a step up from backpackers accom, any suggestions for Koh Ngai accom?
Thanks again for your ever thoughtful contributions :)
