We are looking for a beautiful beach to stay for 3 days, June 22-25. Time is tight so looking for easy access from Chiang Mai. Could be island or mainland. Would like to stay on the beach or very near, have smaller town in walking or tuk-tuk distance, snorkel/kayak opportunities, relax, spa, day trips... I hear weather could be iffy and off season some areas may be closed. willing to pay up to $400 per night (family of 4).
Any suggestions for specific location would be much appreciated.

If Koh Samui is suggested, anyone ever stayed at:
Muang Samui Villas & Suites?
Kanda Residence?
Sha Sa Resort?

Of the three you show, I have to say Muang Samui looks the best. By a long shot!! Some pretty good deals as well through some booking agents.... You don't qualify for many of them becasue you are only staying 3 nights but honestly, i'd push for it and ask...Free airport pick up for example!! You should have a beautiful sunrise and will have to walk for sunset...I thought sunsets were one of your requirments!!??

Also of the three you mention, the only one i know personally is the Sha sa... I would not touch this at your time of year!! I have not stayed there but the house i often rent is very close and I often spend time on the rocks close to the Samui Natien village, as this has been closed for many a year and is falling down now and offers some privacy ..What they don't tell you and no hotel will you , is at this time the water level is extremely low around Samui... In this corner of Samui, when you look at the water, you wil only see large patches of "dark colored ugly dead coral more than poking up through the water. If you can imaging the size of a football field, I'm talking 50% of it! this place does kind of defeat your purspose of sunsets as well and walk to the village stuff...There is nothing close by.... ?? if you concentrate on the reviews of this place, you'll see there is really nothing in the May June period when the water levels are at its lowest. If you do decide to get into the water, the sand is sort of muddy sand as well... The positive, is that if you can get on the outside of these reefs, the area has some of the best snorkeling around samui.. Getting through to the drop off is not easy though....

As to kanda, i find it strange there hasn't been a review since October 2015. One review does discuss contruction going on ...You should be aware that many many hotels do their construction in the may/june/july period because it is the low season. Wherever you stay, I would suggest you ask if there is any construction going on and stay as far away as possible.

In conclusion..just book Muang villas so you can forget about it and look forward to a holiday, not planning it for weeks on end... :))
