Hi all

If I want to travel from Bangkok to Koh Samui via train/bus etc, are there places to stop along the way to break up the journey. I only have 5 nights in Thailand (yes, i know, not enough time but I only have 6 days holiday) so I don;t want to waste 12 hours travelling if it can be avoided.

Could I make the journey worth while or do I need to do it all in one go?

Thank for the help.

Sharon

My advice is fly.
Than you can visit the three islands
Koh samui
Koh Tao
Koh Phangan
Than fly back to Bangkok and get your connection flight home.
If you had longer I would recommend visiting other places.

2 islands maybe in that time frame, no more.

Fly.
A beach is a beach is a beach.
Pick one island with a fancy hotel and enjoy.
You can explore a number of beaches on any one island.

Every group has its own dynamics, if you can't see the idiot then it's probably you.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think :-D

12 hours train ride will not be wasted. You'll be sleeping on overnight train from BKK to Samui.

You can go from BKK to Koh Tao, which is north of Samui, then take the ferry from Tao to Samui, then head from Samui back to BKK. You would leave BKK in the evening and get to Koh Tao in the morning, so you'd spend the night in transit, which means you wouldn't lose a day, as Hacky said.

If you really want to travel by train, travel on the sleeper overnight on a train/bus/ferry ticket then you just spend a night in the train instead of a hotel, no day time wasted.

Thanks everyone. Fab advice.

The flights are 200 pounds so really I dont think this is an option.

What is Koh Chang like? Is it as nice as Koh Samui?

If you fly wiuth the nok air it is a budget airline. About 2000 baht each way. This goes to the airport on the mainland by Samui called Surat Thani and you can buy the ticket that includes the boat to samui island. This is a cheaper alternative. www.nokair.com

Air Asia should be even cheaper apart from a couple of days at the end of this month.
