Hi there ,
we're going to thailand from 12-6 to 5-7 to travel around. We know we're going to some of the islands and chiang mai.
What i want to know is if "the bridge over the river kwai"worth a visit is, because it doen't fitt that well in our travel plans , do i miss something ??
also i want to know if it worth to see ayuttaya amd Sukothai both ??
Last question , i love to see some elephants but not in a show where they have to do some tricks, i wanna see them just in their own environment with bathing and a trek through the forest (or some like that). which or where is the best place to see or do that ??
thnx
Jeroen

I went and saw the bridge over the river. I enjoyed the night we spent on the river and there is some waterfalls not far that were cool, but would not go out of my wait to see the bridge.
My wife and I loved our trip to Kanchanaburi and the Bridge. We raved about it so much that our son took a look on his very next Thailand trip. He was not as impressed. So I think if it's out of your way then save it for another time.

I would agree on the bridge... we loved Kanchanaburi but our highlight was Erawan Falls, we actually didnt even manage the time to see the bridge!! if it doesnt fit in your plans you are not missing alot. As for the elephants you must go to the Elephant Nature Park - we spent a day there and it was brilliant... it is located near Chiang Mai. There is also a similar place near Kanchanaburi called Elephant Friends but we havent been there.... Have a look at our blog on our time there at Reets blog

kanchanaburi is the best!
it is just an hour and a half from bangkok.
the cemetery of POW (prisoners of wars) who built the bridge is sobering.
the river is calming and soothing.
hotels and food are cheap.
there is the tiger temple, the falls, and many more.
take the train in going there and you will have a sight of thailand countryside.
kanchanaburi is relaxing....
you better go...
