I see no reason to alter plans for visitng Thailand other than avoiding redshirted areas in Bangkok. Fly in, get onto some sandy beach and stick a pineapple smoothie or chilled bruski in your hand. Voila you're in heaven.

5 of us were planning to go to Phuket & maybe even Ko Samui for 8 days and then Bangkok for 2 days in late June. We're scrapping Bangkok (we can't avoid it being a stop (coming from Melbourne, Australia)), but now we're not sure if we should forget about going to Thailand all together. I know it's nearly two months before we'd go, but according to http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/advice/thailand we should 'reconsider (our) need to travel to Thailand overall'.
Since we haven't booked anything I just want to know what you all think - would you just go to another country or still book to go to Phuket & Ko Samui?
I live on Koh Tao and most vistors who have come here (and to the rest of Thailand) have simply flown in and left straight away. If you want to you actually dont need to leave the airport - you can just hop on a connecting flight. Here on Koh Tao - you wouldnt know there is anything going on ....life has continued as normal.
I'm on the plane to BKK on Tuesday week.
I 'have' to go to BKK to get the the flight I want to Central Asia, though

I have only ever once seen cheaper flights to KL. That was just after the airport in Bangkok was hijacked a couple of years ago.
I noticed most of the Arab airlines prices to KL started getting lower than Bangkok after they opened Suvarnbhumi. The travel flight bookers noticed too. They used to say routinely as part of their sales pitch that Bangkok was the cheapest place to fly in south east Asia. They've stopped saying that now.

Hi,
We are still coming but flying straight to Samui from KL on the 16th missing out BK.
Regards Dawn.

As others have stated, with a bit of common sense and if you stay away from the demonstrations themselves, Thailand will still be a safe place to go to. On the up side you'll have the upper hand in bargaining for cheaper rooms because fewer people will be there! Haha! I was in Bangkok a couple of years back when the military actually took over the government, everyone panicked then and in fact I felt even more 'looked after' as a tourist, everyone was offering me advice and seemed concerned for my welfare! It was actually quite nice!

After advice from locals we are changing our plans and skipping Bangkok. They are scared about what might happen and how fast it can happen and recomend that we dont go. Extremely disapointed but with all this worrying even before we even go I can't imagine I would have felt safe and enjoyed myself anyway.
