Hello, most books / travel agencies tell you to skip the andaman sea area (e.g. ko lanta, ko phi phi) in july and august because of the weather and hotels closing down.
What can I expect going there in this time of year? I'd like to go there end of july/beginning of august.

Depends where. Friend of mine just came back from Kao Lak, spend most of the time on the veranda of his bungalow as it was raining a lot - and some quite long rains (this year's rainy reasons has been rather wet so far). Plus lots of businesses closed.

I've tried the Andaman a couple of times in August and it has always rained. It may be different this year, I don't think you can predict a month ahead accurately anymore than you could predict your weather at home.

Every group has its own dynamics, if you can't see the idiot then it's probably you.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think :-D

Depends where you go.. Koh chang(Burma side), 4 out of 5 closed, opening up mid Oct.. Phuket and phi phi, expensive tourist places, most open and best prices... Expect 2-3 hours of hard rain every day,....and some amazing thunder and lightening shows..

Its been a while since I was on the west coast at this time, but there used to be a lot of rubbish, plastic bottles on the beaches at this time due to currents.... I particularly remember this on Lanta but times have changed so maybe they clean it more often.. Doubt phuket would have much rubbish as high prices demand high service.

Bring an umbrella or raincoat

Thnx for your reactions. Seems like a little guess to go there in july/ August . You could be lucky.... or not. We will decide when we are in Thailand .

Skip Lanta. Too quiet. If it rains nothing to do. Boat tours stop. If you stay in Phuket/Phi Phi/Krabi there are plenty of bars, restaurants, massage shops to fill your time if it rains. It only rains every 2nd day on average and usually for 1 to 3 hours. Prices are lowest then.
