Hi there,

I'm heading to Thailand for the first time next week, arriving on the 12th. I have a couple of questions regarding accommodation in Phuket and Koh Phi Phi. I want to book a double room (2 people 1 bed) in both locations.

On Phuket i want to stay at Patong Beach. The cheapest accommodation i can find on the internet is 800 baht per night. Is this a fair price or would i get better deals upon arrival?

On Koh Phi Phi i'd prefer to stay in a cheap bungalow if possible. I'm not really sure where the best area to stay would be but i'm only there for 3 days so wouldn't want it to be too out-of-the-way. Any recommendations tips on where would be the best place to look into this or price ranges would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Why Patong Beach? Much nicer areas are to be found just south at Karon or Kata beach. Patong is just a 10 minute Tuk-Tuk ride away.

Phuket is only one small part of Thailand. There are plenty of other areas in the other 75 provinces of Thailand, both beaches and others, where everything is cheaper and there are minimal ripoffs. I personally don't understand why so many tourists flock to Phuket.

Patong Beach you get from THB 400 per night if a fan room is okay for you. On Phi Phi THB 1200 / room and night.

I mention some places on PhI Phi's Soi Viewpoint close to town HERE which could fit your budget.
You could check the sublink I give to Phi Phi Hill above the nicest beach with reasonable access to town, Long Beach. I think their fan bungalows might still be below 800. But yeah, Phi Phi is expensive. Fair bit of other info and pix on Phi Phi on that link may help/

MarkMark, fair enough, from what i've read the beach at Patong is nice and thats where most of the nightlife is. I'll have a look into Karon and Kata beach. Thanks.

drongosee, personally i don't understand why you would bother replying. I'm currently travelling through Malaysia and Phuket will be my entry point in Thailand. Just wanted some advice, hope thats ok with you.

Tezza, thanks a lot for all the information.

As for Phuket, if you want nightlife, consider Surin Beach as well. There are a couple of pretty good bars and overall it's just a lot more pleasant and not seedy. Accomodation is slightly more expensive, but at least you can get some sleep...
