i will be staying in phi phi from late november until around early feb and need to find decently priced accomodation for that duration..... i will be getting some worked lined up after my IDC but am just not sure on what the best approach is to getting long term accomodation at a better price?

I did my DM internship in Koh Tao, and I had the dive shop organise the first week's accommodation, and then went looking for longer term accommodation once I arrived and had a chance to work out what I wanted. That would be my recommendation - and you can also talk to other people and get recommendations from them once you've arrived. You'll probably find there's some fairly standard deals around, but if you pre-arrange it then you're going to pay more than if you're there negotiating on the spot.
