Hello Thailand Experts! My new wife and I are traveling into Thailand for our honeymoon and needed advice. We arrive early am on a Wednesday and depart mid-afternoon on the next Tuesday (arrive and depart from BKK) so 6 nights/7 days. We wanted to see the liveliness of Bangkok, the culture of Chiang Mai, and the tropical Koh Samui.

We were thinking fly into BKK early am Tuesday and then catch an immediate flight to Koh Samui. Leave Koh Samui mid-afternoon Friday to Chiang Mai. And then leave Chiang Mai early evening Saturday (or Sunday morning) to go back to Bangkok to spend some time there before we depart early afternoon Tuesday.

Are we selling ourselves short on time? With diligence we feel we can see it all and get the fast paced, culture, and relaxation/tropical adventure that Thailand is all about. Any better ideas or suggestions with rearranging the timings of the 3 places. The only thing we can't change is arrival and departure from/to Thailand.

Thanks SOOO much in advance!!

Sincerely,
-Excited Thailand Visitor

Such haste, after all it is a honeymoon. I would skip Chiang Mai and just enjoy Bangkok & Samui only.

Too many places so little time.
I would go to Phuket and not Samui a there is so much more to do and see, also Samui flights are expensive whereas air asia to Phuket is far cheaper.

People will tell you that Phuket is overdeveloped, to commercialised etc.....
Avoid the main area Patong, Karon & Kathu and it's a great island.
For something a bit quieter and romantic take a look at Cape Panwa in the south east of the island.

Are we selling ourselves short on time?

Sounds like a real dash to me but it's do-able.

I'd agree with Macca too, that Phuket is a far better option than Samui.

Are you a real doctor? If so, what are these spots around my balls?

Glad to hear that you want to honeymoon in Thailand. My place have many thing to do and see but i think you have to hurry with 3 places. May you enjoy with local culture at Samui and Chiang Mai but in Bangkok is different. I'm not sure on you favourite place so can't tell you which place perfect for you. Anyway if you like sea, sand and local culture may Samui is perfect but for Chiang Mai have city look inside with old fashion with moutains. For Bangkok that i live have more complex of city with many place to see and do and more convenient rail. In Bangkok have many important place for Thai people such as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Keaw) or you can watch the show about Thailand’s cultural heritage.

If you want more information you can visit at www.tourismthailand.org

Hope i can help you something. Happy honeymoon ka.

only warts? gotta to be happy with that. hahah

For honeymooners..I have to agree that 2 places is best, and not 3. If money is no object (it's a honeymoon after all) then Samui is way to go but expensive. If culture turns you on then definitely Chiang Mai.

When planning a holiday I reckon you can only count full days with no travel as holiday days, so looking at your original plan I'd only give you four holiday days.

Definitely just do KS and Bangkok.

7 days is enough to do organized tour on bkk, 1-2 days, of course you will have some jet lag if you are flying over from europe, so that doesn't leave much. if your in europe and have 7 days, just go to greece or portugal or something ......
