Hi there

We (2 adults and 1 child, 9 year old) are landing in Bangkok at 9.30pm. Our flight the next day is 7.30am. I have never experienced a long transit at this time of night before so I don't really know what to do. I'm guessing a short rest at a hotel near by is most sensible. I see there is a Novotel which is a 5 minute walk (by tunnel?) but it's quite pricey...

Can anyone recommend a good but affordable place to stay? And does a long transit require us to collect our bags and then go through customs again? How long does this take at Bangkok airport?

Sorry for the questions. I'm not experienced in leaving airports during transit.

Thank you!

More details on your flights needed, eg: from/to ; which airport(s); which airline; etc.

Better to give too much info rather than too little.

Many many 20$ hotels that include transport 10 minutes away.. Look under booking. Com and use BKK airport as the search criteria

Assuming bkk. Not dmk

Airline doesn't really come into it.

Airline makes no difference and reasonable to assume it is suvarnabhumi airport given the mention of Novotel

IF you have a through ticket to your destination then you can (or should be able to) book your bags all the way through so just take on board enough for the overnight as hand luggage. The key is how you have bought the tickets.

Unfortunately it is hard to predict how long it will take to go through immigration but generally allow 30 minutes it could be quicker or slower though but if slow then there is unlikely to be a wait for bags if you do need to collect them.

remember you will need to check in early for the flight the next day so do not go too far from airport

Airline doesn't really come into it.

It will effect what sort of transit. Whether bags will still be checked in, whether OP will need to check in again, or already have boarding pass. etc.

The OP has already admitted not knowing much about the process, so in my humble opinion, a little too much info is better than not enough.

Edit: he might even have to change airports - that mistake has been made before.

That's an abysmal connection, a total waste of time. Are you sure that's the best available?

Every group has its own dynamics, if you can't see the idiot then it's probably you.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think :-D

OP appears to be from NZ and this looks like a Thai Airways flight. Probably the best connection available.

Its the ticketing that is key and whether they can check bags through

Why would that be?? Abysmal...??? Flight gets in at 2130, so not like op could catch a flight to the islands, for example, so catches one at a semi normal early morning time. It seems to me rather an efficient use of time.. She can be asleep by 2300 in a 20€ hotel room 5 minutes from the airport and get 6 hours of good sleep??

So as to hotels.. I've stayed at BS residence and golden jade.. Nothing special but price and convenience are perfect..
