has anyone travelled the above route - hcmc to phon phen by boat on the mekong. also is it possible to get to siem reap via the mekong? any other tips for travel on the above routes. budget not a priority, we are a little older than the average back packer so a little comfort goes a long way. thankyou

I have read various things concerning internet- typically slow, expensive, and not worth it. But I've also heard that you can't access certain email accounts, namely yahoo and hotmail. Does anyone know if this is still the case? I'll assume that it is- I'll find out Tuesday anyway! Thanks for any help if anyone knows.

I've been looking through the LP Myanmar/Burma book, and it seems like a lot of budget accommodation is rather expensive....or at least more than I would have anticipated (the average between $5-9). Is this really how it is, or are there cheaper ones? I don't mind if they're dingy, windowless, etc for the most part.

I also had some friends just get back from burma and they said that it was really touristic. Is this the case? And if so, is that because the government controls where you go…

I am thinking about spending a minimum 10 days at one of the meditation centres in Yangon ( or even any place in Myanmar) in April.

Does any one have experience of or recommendations for any particular temple?

Sorry for yet another weather question- will April be ideal for just sitting and thinking?

we are planning a bike tour in the mekong delta, maybe with Tulip travel- has anyone gone with them? any other recommendations? looking at the 3 day or 5 day tours....we are in pretty good shape, but haven't done any really long biking for several years... we like to meet locals, see things slowly.. not interested in "lux" travel...thanks for your input!

we are travelling in Cambodia in June and would like some advice about an overland trip. We want to go PP - Sambor Prei Kuk- Preah Khan- Tbeng Meanchy- Prasat Preah Vihear- Koh Ker- Beng Mealea- Khvau- Siem Reap. Any ideas and constructive advice would be greatly appreciated. we are travelling with our 2 kids,9 and 4. how difficult on dirt bikes, or 4x4 better? Will it be easy enough to find a guide in PP or should we do a tour. the less money the better as we are travelling for 3…

Has anyone taken the train from Bangkok to Vientiane? We arrive in Bangkok at 11.30pm and want to leave on the 6am train...but are unsure about if and how to pre-book tickets on this train. Also, how long would it take to get between the airport and the station?

We are planning a 14 days trip to North-Vietnam in june. Does anyone know, what the weather is like? How much rain should we expect?

We are using Hanoi as our base, and are currently planning two tours with Handspan: 2 nights/3days to Halong Bay, and 4 nights, three days in Sapa at the Topas Ecolodge. Does anyone have any experience with these? How many tourists are there in the area, where the Ecolodge is, which is supposedly 18 km away from Sapa.

And what else should we do in North Vietnam…

Next week I fly out (via Bangkok) for around 10-12 days in Vietnam. At present I am struggling with two things that I am oping for some advice on

1. I fly into Hanoi with Air Asia and plan to head south bit by bit. At the end (Saigon / Ho Chi Min) I want to then fly onto one of the Thai islands (not sure which yet but probably Kuo Phi Phi) and am struggling to find an airline that flies from Saigon Airport. Am I looking at the wrong place? Is there another airport that serves budget…
