Hi all...just came back from one month in Laos, here's what I ran into money-wise
You can use Thai Baht for larger purchases but beware of the exchange rate...if they quote you a price in Thai Baht then it's o.k. but if they quote you a price in Kip and you ask them how much for Baht you are often going to get a very low exchange rate.
Use traveller's checks only as a back-up system, AMX traveller's cheques are not accepted and there is a 3.00$ fee to cash…

I'm coming to the end of my visa. If I cross the border into Thailand, then come straight back to Laos, will I have any problems getting a new visa on arrival?

Has anyone any information on taking a boat from Vientiane to Savannakhet. Or is it only feasible by bus? How long would it be by boat and how long by bus? I also want to go from Savannakhet to Hue, Vietnam. Any info, tips, suggestions would be very welcome! Are there any worthwhile stopovers between Vientiane and Hue. Does anyone have hotel tips for Savannakhet? This partly duplicates an earlier post, for which I apologise....and thanks in adcvance.

Hi. I'm travelling from Bangok to Hue, Vietnam via Savannakhet, Southern Lao in July.
Would you recommend going via Vientiane or overland through Thailand (if so what route pls)
Would welcome any information about Savannakhet, especially the trip to Hue. Is there anywhere en route from Vientiane to Hue that merits a stopover (other than Savannakhet)? Thanks in advance.....

Has anone ever flown Angkor Airways? Is it reliable? They have one round trip per day from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, departing PP at 08:05. http://www.angkorairways.com/<BR><BR>A friend wants to join the group of us going up for a quick side trip from PP in March, and the 08:00 flight on Siem Reap Airways from PP to SR is fully booked that day. She could join us in late morning, but it would be much more convenient if she could come on that 08:05 flight.
