Hi, will be visiting Sapa mid March, but having a hard time choosing a hotel, finding many negative reviews of the hotels listed on the hotel reservation web sites, anyone have a good experience at a mid range or budget hotel in Sapa? ($20-35USD) Thanks.
We have returned home from Vietnam, which was very enjoyable on the whole and well worth visiting.
Nevertheless, a friend has just told us that we really should have taken Malaria tablets or other forms of medication. We looked into it before leaving, but decided that the risk was relatively low. Although we went to the Mekong, we put insect repellent on and slept with a net, though a few of the little buggers slipped through. Other than that, Sa Pa was the most remote we got.

i have about 7-8 days from houay xai to vientiane.
i think to get the slow boat ride to l.p., stay there, also visit vang vieng and then vt. (i know it will be a little rush and i'll miss so many good places...).
where could i have a 2-3 days trek? ....rather budget cost, without luxury but with insight to the local's life and nature...
any info you can send regarding travel agent, cost etc will be a big help to me!

We are two families with three kids (2, 8, and 13 yrs) who will join in HongKong at end of March.
Our plan is to go overland through China to Vietnam possibly by train.
We wonder if anyone could give us some hints on how to go with this.
May be we also could stay for a few days in China en-route, in case there is something of interest to
see or do.
Depends of course on overnight possibilities in China. And how to book.
We are backpack tourists, however the rooms shouldn't be the lousiest... ;-)

I've done a search but couldn't figure out which is the best season to travel in Vietnam ("conventional" north-south trip, 4-weeks), in terms of (nice) weather and, specially, (less) foreign travellers and (cheaper) low-season fares.
