In coming August, my family has a vacation in Vietnam. Now I cannot give the fixed time but maybe we'll spend about 2-3 weeks for the journey in Vietnam. Specific number of days depends on my husband's work. We're very excited about cruises through islands. Following are our itinerary for 2 weeks.
+ 4 days: Hanoi
+ 3 days: Halong cruise (Any ferries or high-quality cruises take us to Lan Ha Bay, Cat Ba??)
+ 1 day: Back Hanoi and take a train/bus to Sapa (Train or bus? Which one is more convenient?)…
Hello guys,
What could you suggest in terms of mode of transport from Vietnam to the philipines; preferably less cost effective.
Thank you so much
First time in Vietnam, traveling North form HCMC and arriving in Hanoi at the end of April. Figured I would try for a suggestion as to a good budget place. I am an older guy (hate the term 'senior' but.....), so convenience of a lift and location close to to the 'usual'l sites would be great. Thanks!
Is it interesting and charming (and possible) to take a short tour (perhaps 2 hours in the afternoon) in the small canals around Can Tho without visiting Cai Rang? We will see Cai Rang (not via little canals) in the morning when disembarking a night cruise. We will have the whole afternoon and evening to ourselves in Can Tho, taking a morning flight to Hoi An the next day. I know some people will prefer Ben Tre to wander around the narrow canals, but is this also worth it in Can Tho? If so, is…
OK this is very specific, but hopefully someone who knows Hanoi really well will respond.
There's a street in Hanoi, somewhere between the Old Quarter and St Joseph's cathedral where there are a lot of shops that sell carved wooden bases that you'd set a statue or incense burner on. I walked down the street last year and noticed a bunch of shops clustered together selling the same things. They likely sold other things - perhaps the statues and incense burners, but I just noticed all of the…
I have noticed that many of the makers of travel clothing actually produce the garments in Vietnam. Since I will be arriving in Saigon in a few says, I was wondering if it is practical to find a shop there and buy a couple of shirts. Anyone know if this is practical? Thanks!

I am trying to work out travel plans from Saigon north. I love train travel, and hope to use one or more trains, maybe an overnight sleeper. I tried the Vietnam Railroad site, but I really can't make out names of places and times. So: can anyone advise approximate travel times (and maybe costs?) for trains between HCMC and Hoi An, Hoi An to Hue, Hue to Hanoi?
I am of course assuming that there are such train routes! If not, any information on trains heading to near those cities…
Hello,
The Fanxipan Night train from Hanoi to Lao Cai has 4 berth cabins. We are 5 with 3 young children. Is it possible to sleep 5 in a cabin (by paying 5 tickets) and sleep two children in a berth? We did this in a night ferry in Greece (Crete to Athens) and it was fine. I was told that the beds in the Fanxipan were smaller than those in night ferries as we traveled in. Does anyone know if this is accurate? Because we would prefer to be together than have one alone with other people or pay…
Hi all!
I am wondering if there are any taxis (cars or bikes) that drive travelers from Canh Nang into the reserve -Ban Kho Muong more specifically. According to the map there is an unpaved road for that stretch...
We will be traveling for a short amount of time at the end of April and we are hoping to save some time this way and hike in a "deeper" part of the park.
Thanks in advance!
Eliza
