What is the best way to get from Bac Ha to Sa Pa without being part of a tour from Sa Pa? Our night train will be arriving in Lao Cai Sunday morning so we will head directly to Bac Ha for the market. Then, we want to get to Sa Pa. Taxi? Bus back to Lao Cai, then another bus to Sa Pa? Or a possible transfer through the hotel in Sa Pa?

It might be the same day (Sunday) but I'm also thinking of staying one night in Bac Ha to do the 8 km loop (Thai Giang Pho to Na Lo) the next morning, then head to…

I expect to be in HCMC in a week or two and hope someone can recommend a reasonable GH/Hotel in the backpacker area (District 1) priced around $20? Also the same in Nha Trang near the beach. I know I can find many listings on Agoda, etc. but would like to hear from someone whop actually stayed in the recommended guest house. Thanks for any suggestions.

Relevant info: Traveling in July with three children. We like to walk, and we love the beach. In our South to North 1-month itinerary, I have planned to stay a bit longer in two places to just enjoy and take our time. I chose to stay 5 full days in Hoi An (6 nights) and 4 full days in Sapa.

I have been wondering if we should give more than 4 days in Sapa (and/or Bac Ha) to walk/trek and take in the scenery, by cutting out a day in Hoi An. In terms of weather…

Initially we were going to do the Perfume pagoda day tour from Hanoi, but our agent (and some people here) highly recommend to spend time in Ninh Binh (more precisely Tam Coc). It seems that our time would be better spent in Tam Coc (2 days) than visiting the Perfume pagoda (1 day). Would some say that we should try and make some time in our itinerary to fit in the Perfume pagoda tour too? (We will also be in Hue two days.)

I will be traveling to Hanoi the last week of April with my girlfriend. Our itinerary is aggressive as we only have 3 days in Hanoi before we leave to Hoi An. We want to do a day trip from Hanoi to Cat Ba island and come back the same day at night. Of course you need to show your passport when you check in to a hotel, but when I was in Vietnam several years ago, they were inclined to demand that you just leave your passport with them so that they keep it at the front desk for the duration of your stay. Do they still do this? How do you respond? Do you leave your passport with them?

Hi all hope your well , Im planning a trip from end of June to begining of July , it will be my First time Visiting Vietnam and looking for some recommendations on top places to visit , how easy is it and best way to get from Hanoi to Ha Long bay or any general hints and tip for Vietnam or places within that you highly recommend . I'm also a budding landscape photographer and looking for any hidden gems to get some great shots .
