Hi there

we are thinking of going to sa pa but not with the train or bus from hanoi, instead trying off track via cities like cam pha, lang so'n, etc, just trying to follow the more or less main roads which seem to exist at least on our map. anybody done this? is it possible at all to get a way through or is there really only the train/ bus possibility from hanoi?

also is it worth going to sa pa if you're not an excessive trecking person and you dont really wanna go on a 3 or 5 day trecking tour…

I am living and working in Ho Chi Minh City. I would just like to let you know, that the above is a very poor service. On several occasions I have gone in there, logged onto one of their computers and once I have ordered my food and drink, the network slows right down or dies completely. The wifi connection starts off strong and for some reason it goes very low. The staff are not at all helpful and really don't care if you have connection or not. Of course, by this time, they have your…

Hello! I'm travelling from Beijing to Bangkok from May to July which involves travelling through Vietnam. I'm doing this all through trains and am looking at stopping at a few of the places along the Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh track (Nha Trang, Da Nang, etc).

I was just wondering firstly, where would people suggest getting off and seeing (and for how long for?) Please restrict these to stops on the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh line because this is my first time travelling so i'm not sure about straying to far…

I was also reading the Moon guide for Indochina, and it talks about the little urchins in Saigon that will wrap themselves around one's legs and hang on until the individual pays up. I got to thinking, and I wonder if this has ever happened to anyone here at TT? I thought possibly one solution would be to carry around a mini canister of ground pepper (rather than lethal pepper spray?)

Has anyone swam at the pool at Cong Vien Van Hoa Park? Is it recommended? Too crowded, clean, tourists allowed, etc.? Apparently, it was part of the old French Cercle Sportif, now open to the public.

Or would I be better off swimming at a hotel pool?

Hi there...

I'm starting my rtw trip next tuesday and have thought about all pre-departure visas except vietnam... I'll arive there around august-september (predeparture thought anyway, nobody knows...) and I'd like to know how should I manage to get the visa... I'll fly there probably from HKG, so I don't know if it'd be best to get it in the HKG consulate or maybe I could use this web I read here reccomended who makes the letter of reccomendation for you for a fee...

What's the smartest way…

Hello friendly TTers!

I'm arriving in HCMC soon and initially I was looking for a hotel with a great view of the city. Anan Hotel looks fantastic and I might settle for that, if they have rooms available on the higher floors.

However, given budget constraints, I might end up staying at a guesthouse somewhere along Pham Ngu Lao.

But I still want to have a great view!!!!

Where in Saigon can I have a spectacular view of the city?

Initially I was hoping for a sunset view but now I just want a good…
