Where is the best place to take short (one day) trekking in tropical forest or jungle?

I'll have about 10 days to spend in Vietnam at the end of November. I know that is not nearly enough time to even come close to seeing all the main sites. so we are going to focus on one area.

My question is -- north or south? I know the central part will be a wash out so we'll pass on that area for this trip. I am leaning to the north as presumably it is the start of the dry winter season and although a bit chilly that shouldn't be a problem. The concern is whether we will be likely socked…

I have been reading up on Vietnam and am starting to get the impression places can get quite crowded, am I wrong?

I travelled in Laos & Cambodia 7 years ago and don't remember it being very full (could always show up without booking, was easy to find quiet places to visit). Have things changed since then, or was Vietnam always more popular?

Has anyone tried applying for a Chinese Visa in Hanoi? They don't respond to e-mails and their telephone number only gives me automatic messages, of course not in English. I am currently in Laos and need to know if I can apply for a Visa there, otherwise there is no point for going there. I am unable to apply here in Laos till the 22nd of May because of Embassy's policies.

Hi, was thinking on hiring a motorbike and visit the north west from Hanoi or else from Sapa. Going in late May early June, what would you recommend to see? I assume weather is quite hot then, so maybe sticking to the mountain areas? Any recommendation for motorbike hire in Hanoi or Sapa?

Was just wondering how easy it is to book a train to Sapa on the day or does it need to be done in advance?
We land early morning in Hanoi and wanted to get the overnight train to Sapa that night.

I'm currently in Melbourne, Aus flying to Vietnam tomorrow morning via Singapore. Due to me being really late with my 3-month VISA application (applied on Saturday) and there being 2 horribly placed Vietnamese public holidays that I was unaware of (yesterday and today), I've been left in a situation where I'm unable to board my flight without my VISA Approval Letter in Melbourne.

I am planning to travel to Vietnam for 2 weeks, will start off in HCMC and conclude the trip in Hanoi.

Need advice

1) is Nha Trang is enough for a night's stay
2) which cave tour is best to be done in a day and is worth it?
3) Best 2 day tours for halong bay? please advice legit options (i found few options online 250-300 USD) seemed a bit pricy.
