I am starting to do my bookings for my trip with my 3 young children in July (thanks JayDee and all for your advice!) I dont know whether I am being stupid or what, but I cant find a site which allows me to book domestic flights! The Vietnam AIrlines site only seems to have info, no booking mechanism and another site I looked at would only allow me to book flights if I was booking a hotel with them!
So, can someone recommend a site where I can book domestic flights in Vietnam reliably and cheaply?

three options:
1. try Pacific Airlines (you may search by yahoo or google or something you think it's work), it's an alternative of the Vietnam Airlines and it's comparatively cheaper than Vietnam Airlines but it only flies to a few destinations, I bought two PacAirlines single-way tickets online from HCMC to Hanoi in July for just US$67 each, everything included.
2. try to contact some travel agents and ask them to make advance booking for you
3. you may notice that some TTs told us that it's not difficult to buy air tickets when you just show up in Vietnam Airlines Ticketing Office in 1 or 2 days before your journey

We booked internal flights through Vietnam Paradise Travel-good service, quick replies,picked up tix when we got there, commission was about $5 a tix at that time, worth it for us.

I would wait until I got to Vietnam to book internal flights. There are many travel agents that will gladly do it for you, and issue your ticket within a few minutes. You can also pay by cash or credit card.

Hi - glad my info was helpful.....we booked through www.ivivu.com. For US$141 we booked 5 tickets HCMC to Buon Ma Thuot, paid by credit card online before we left and found the tickets delivered to our hotel waiting for us when we arrived. I think we only paid about $20-30 more than if we'd gone to Vn office direct. Our flight the next morning was full, so I was very glad we booked ahead. After that we have just booked direct at the VN offices in Buon Ma Thuot and at Danang Airport. [I would have booked the rest in one go in BMT but they don't have any credit card facility there and I didn't want to use up all my cash....]
