Hi,
Looking into this motorbike or scooter tour in north Vietnam. I'll be in the country in June and wondering if it's worth going at that time or skipping? Tour looks great, but I'm concerned about going in the wet season, road conditions with the rain, etc.

Skip because of June or still worth going?

JUne is not a rainy month, the roads are very good and the region north of Ha Giang (Quang Ba-Dong Van-Ma Pi Leng-Méo Vac) absolutely stunning. DO IT ! You can easily do it on your own : night bus direct Hnaoi-Ha Giang (leaves My Dinh Station around 20h30), you rent a scooter there, do the tour, back to HG and return Hanoi by night bus (20h30).

The tour from that link does it in 4 nights, 3 days (including 2 nights in the bus). On our own (without the tour), how many days do you think the loop would take on the scooter? (4n, 3d would eat a big chunk of my time.)

Also, if we just rent the scooter in Ha Giang, how easy would it be to follow the loop for someone who's never been to Vietnam?

Thanks!

Well, I'd a said 4D3N was rushing for the Ha Giang region.

I've been up there for more than a week at a time and not tired of it.l

3 days minimum :
*Day 1 : Arrival by night bus around 5AM + scooter Ha Giang-Quang ba-Dong Van
Day 2 : Around Dong Van (DV Fu Lo Foretress, Lung Cu (Belveder and Lolo village)-Sa Phin (castle of the king of the H'mong)
Day 3 : DV-Ma Pi Leng Pass-Meo Vac-Ha Giang on the south road passing through Lung Phin + night bus HG-Hanoi
You can add one day in DV for trekking or scooter to nearby villages

  • if we just rent the scooter in Ha Giang, how easy would it be to follow the loop for someone who's never been to Vietnam?
  • Very easy, there is only one road and it is well indicated
Also, if we just rent the scooter in Ha Giang, how easy would it be to follow the loop for someone who's never been to Vietnam?
