Has anyone here tried one of these 2 day treks (with home stay) with children :

  • Sapa –> Y Linh Ho —> Lao Chai —> Ta Van —> Giang Ta Chai. Return to Sapa by car. Total km: 28 in 2 days.

  • Sapa —> Suoi Ho —> Matra —> Ta Phin —> Trung Chai. Return to Sapa by car. Total km: 24 in 2 days.

Was it doable and enjoyable and which one would you suggest?

My kids have done medium 8km treks in gorges and 10-12km walks on flat trails. (However, never two days in a row.) They are 10, 10 & 6. I'm trying to find a good option with home stay (or perhaps just day treks, are there any interesting ones?)

Can we just book these upon arrival or best in advance?

Both trekkings are very easy. Ta Van is more spectacular than Ta Phin. With children, you are not obliged to walk all the way, you can ask that they bring you to TV or back to Sapa by motorbike.

Staying for a night in a homestay is one of the great pleasures of trekking in Vietnam, so, do it !

you can ask that they bring you to TV...

When I read this, I first understood that I can ask that they bring them to a TV (television) and thought that was pretty funny. ;)

Ok, we'll try the 2 day trek via Ta Van. I think the homestay is in Lao Chai (and not Tavan). And we return by car (quoique I would like the motorbike option as it would add the bike ride I was looking for). But Sapa O'Chau is not equipped for kids on motorbikes yet (no helmuts and the such).

Merci!

Is it easy to find homestay accommodation on the go (let's say in july...), or is booking a must?

If you book a trekking with a Sapa agency, they take care of the homestay ; on your own, you will find only the HS which are no longer HS, but simili-hotels with a 20-30-bed dormitory and, of course, no dinner with the owner and his family. The SMALL HS are not indicated, so you will not find them.
