I'm going to be entering Vietnam from China via Dong Dang and wondering if anyone has suggestions the easiest way to get Sapa/Lao Cai. Is the only way by bus or can you go by train, will this be easy to arrange?

Mini bus to Hanoi then train to Lao Cai and bus or moto to Sapa.

My experience was the taxi 'cartel' from Dong Dang to Lang Son [find others to share the cost] and from there, a shared minivan to Hanoi which should be faster than the train. If you're in a rush to get to Sapa, you should be in time for the night train to Lao Cai.
