Shortly I will be ending my travels with an unexpected last stop in Ho Chi Minh City. I want to do a bit of shopping (presents, the usual) and get a couple of suits made before heading home. Does anyone know of a good reliable tailor? Also what is the best area/place for shopping. I've never been to Ho Chi Minh and don't have the lonelyplanet guide - ahhh!!
Thanks!

Don't know about tailors.

Otherwise: many people go to Ben Thanh market.
Tax Department store on the corner of Le Loi and Nguyen Hue
Diamond Plaza (not cheap!) just north of the cathedral
Plenty of small specialist stores along Dong Khoi

Do a search for 'Tailors in Vietnam'. There are a couple that get recommended. Also try google.
Pay good money to get good quality.

Agree Ben Thanh is overpriced so bargain hard. There is a big warehouse nearby which has many of the same goods where I paid a lot less Thanh Nam 101 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia st,

Nearby is Kenly silk 132 Le Thanh Ton (street behind Ben Thanh market, Kenly silk (also in Hanoi) is at least a block on
the left toward Dong Khoi- the main shopping street) Silk scarves particularly but also clothes.

I also like Saigon Kitsch on Ton That Thiep. This street has lots of interesting and fairly cool shops.

Tombo 44 & 145 Dong Khoi, and Nguyen freres 2 Dong Khoi, are very good for presents.
