Hello, my boyfriend and i are travelling through Vietnam for 3 weeks in April and hope to do some scuba diving whilst we are there. We have looked into this through websites, guide books etc but dont really seem to be able to find anywhere. Does anybody have any recomendations or experience of diving in this area? If so we would greatly appreciate any help or advice that anyone can give! Thankyou.

I did my PADI (well actually i failed my PADI) at rainbow divers in Nha Trang, there were a few others around town too:

Blue Diving Club - www.vietnamdivers.com

Coco Dive Center - www.cocodivecenter.com

Jeremy Steins Rainbow Divers - www.divevietnam.com

I chose Rainbow because it was the only 5-star one.

The diving itself wasn't great, but i was there at the worst time of year (new year), might be better in April. There is also diving down on that island in the south, the name of which i forget, and also a branch of Rainbow Divers is in Hoi An. It seemed to me that Nha Trang was the most populer place to do it though.

I used Rainbow divers in Nha Trang as well, 1st rate outfit, great chaps and safety should be your main concern, not price.

Depends on seas and conditions as well....I went in Dec, it was strong currents, cold, and visibility was 8 meters,,,

Read reviews about rainbow divers before, it doesn't seem to be recommended. (Couldn't recall at which diving website)
It mentioned about sometimes, the trip could be "jammed" with too many divers and they were rated the lowest in environmental consciousness.

Last year, someone told me that coco has been expelled from PADI.
i don't know how true is this.

There is another dive centre at Nha Trang in the guide book.
i will go in April and i think i am going to this "Octopus Dive Centre", which i think they do not have a website.

Not a very good place for diving. unless you can charter a boat bring you to some outer location for your adventure. VN have very strick rules for diving location, the resolve for that is every body go to the same place. Five years ago, in Nha Trang still good but now everything die out, I report this to a marine ecologist, according to him there are currently worldwide problem, for some mystery reason corals and near shore vegetations have disappear in an alarming rate over the pass 7 years.

If you wanted a good diving experience go to Indonesia or Maldives, even Thailand are very bad now.

What are you talking about..? Rainbow gets glowing reviews...Coco was a joke, we actaully picked up 2 of the customers they lost in strong currents...

PADI.COM is the website to use worldwide for reputable divemasters...

Yes, you're right, Coco are a joke. They got kicked out of PADI years ago. What out for the Rottweilers and dog s**t on the pavemant outside the shop. Disgusting.

So did Blue Diving Club. I think they are closed now. Anyone know why?

Check the PADI website, theres a list of all the dive centers. www.padi.com

Sailing Club Divers and Octopus Diving are the same and they are 5 star also. www.sailingclubdivers.com.

I dived in Nha Trang a week ago, the vis is not very good now but it was well organised and professional. The Marine Park people need to sort themselves out though. Too many boats on one mooring buoy and the boat collecting money nearly ran us over.

Cheap is not always cheerfull.

Phu Quoc is in the South, in the gulf of Thailand but if you look on a map it's off the coast of Cambodia.

Make sure your divemster doesn't touch the coral like Cocos local staff or collect shellfish to eat for lunch. And don't let them feed the mray eels. Someone will get bitten.
