Hi
Visiting vietnam, with family (2 teenagers) in june / july
wanted to spend a week on the beach doing nothing / scuba diving ( beginners)
We thought Phu Quoc looked ideal, but am worried about the effect of the rainy season on the diving
can any one advise is this a runner or should we head elsewhere?
thanks

You'd have better vis in DaNang or Nha Trang that time of year.

I've been diving in both Nha Trang and Phu Quoc in January. The visibility in Nha Trang was excellent, but the marine life is not very abundant and the dives stay very shallow, so you might as well go snorkling. The visibility in Phu Quoc was quite bad (less than 5m) at the time, but that didn't really matter as there was even less to see there. Although I really loved our trip in Vietnam, I don't think it's the most interesting place to go diving, but maybe if you're just starting you'll enjoy the experience anyway or maybe you'll just enjoy being under water, like I do :-).

I'm guessing you won't go to Phu Quoc at this time, as only one dive shop even stays open during rainy season (roughly May through September there). If you go, talk with Vietnam Explorer (www.divingvietnam.com). They say they only really dive off the south end during rainy season.

Check out Rainbow Divers, great outfit and safety is key, I think they have a diveshop in both locales...just google...

(I used them in Nha Trang in Dec- it was so so conditions, but $38 for a two tank dive was a deal)
