Can you get satellite internet anywhere in Vietnam? How much does it cost? (for an individual, not a business)

If and when in VN on a tourist visa. No.

Why satellite? Are you going somewhere off the beaten path?

Lots of places had ADSL. If you're living there, I imagine you'd use that. If you're just visiting, use wifi.

I'm not on a tourist visa, I've been living here most of the last year on business visas.

And yes, I want to go off the beaten path into the sticks where there is no ADSL (and fewer motorbikes and noise, one hopes!)

Ah, makes more sense.

I can't help on satellite internet, unless Thuraya has something, you could check their site. I just know they have satellite phones we used in Iraq (though the Iraqi cellular got better coverage near Baghdad anyway). Maybe you could hook a regular satellite phone up to a laptop like you can a cellular phone?

Folks in travel technology forum might know better, could give that a shot.

And since I got curious, I looked and they do have it. Thuraya DSL

Thanks for that. This Thuraya service requires a SIM card, so is this accessing the net through a mobile phone network? That's going to be way too expensive, I was thinking about a satellite service where I have my own backyard dish.

Nice to know....

I suppose you can get it but why. WiFi is availble in many of the restauants and hotels for free. ADSL, is fairly fast at the internet cafes and cheap, cheap.
