Dear all,

we are planning to visit both Sapa and Bac Ha in the next weeks, and of course, we would like to visit Bac Ha market, but not with one of these typical Sunday morning tours. The idea is to travel from Sapa to Bac Ha on Saturday afternoon, spend the night there and return to Lao Cai to catch the evening train - but we have no idea if there are any buses.
1) Is there any bus from Sapa to Bac Ha on Saturday afternoon (or from Sapa to Lao Cai and from Lao Cai to Bac Ha). If so, what time?
2) Is there any bus from Bac Ha to Lao Cai on Sunday afternoon? We have to catch the 20.35 train to Hanoi.

3) Would you recommend us to stay in Sapa for 2 or 3 days?

Thanks for your help.

You can take bus from Lao Cai to Bac Ha on Saturday afternoon around 12:00 - 15:00 PM. I took bus near Lao Cai station with price around 60.000 VND. But dont know how much now?

The way back to Lao Cai in early afternoon.

One night in Sapa is enough, then you can stay at home stay or visit Can Cau or Bac Ha Market.

I loved Sapa and stayed there 7 days but much depends on the trade off with other places

Be aware that the temperature has dropped markedly in northern VN in the last four days. Sa Pa, being elevated, is always cooler but the temps are keeping below 20C at present. Wet too.

There is no direct bus service between Sapa and Lao Cai except organized tour buses.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As for transports from Sapa to Lao Cai---
Since last year(2014), public bus service between Lao Cai and Sapa started with 2 bus lines---<line No.1=between Lao Cai railway station and Sapa> & <No 2=between new Lao Cai bus station(3km south) and Sapa via Lao Cai railway station>
https://www.flickr.com/photos/93515541@N04/17009583571/in/datetaken/ ---(Ha Son Buyt=Ha Son Bus=Public bus at Sapa)
https://www.flickr.com/photos/93515541@N04/21487160873/in/dateposted-public/ ---(timetable)
These public buses depart very frequently from early morning(05:20-06:00am) to evening(18:00-18:30pm)/ every 20-30mins from both sides /required time:1h/bus fare:30,000VND
so we no more need to take minibus(minivan) for going to Sapa/back to Lao Cai worrying about overcharging and time adjusting=waiting for long time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can take above public bus(Ha Son Bus) as below.
①bus from Sapa to Lao Cai---at "new Sapa bus station" or "a bus stop near Old Church" at center of the town

https://www.flickr.com/photos/93515541@N04/22108370185/in/dateposted-public/ ---(a bus stop near Old Church at Sapa)
②bus from Lao Cai to Sapa---at a corner of the plaza just in front of Lao Cai railway station(=line No.1) or a bus stop on the road in front of Lao Cai railway station(=line No.2)

As for transports from Lao Cai to Bac Ha----

---timetable of bus from Lao cai to Bac Ha (Oct.2014, it's almost the same now too, i think)
---dep.time:06:30am/08:15am/09:00am/11:30am/12:00/14:00pm/15:00pm/60,000VND +
If you want to visit Bac Ha Sunday market, it's better for you to visit as early time as possible, so if you go to Bac Ha from Lao Cai on Sunday, the best bus you take is <06:30am> only, but if you go to Bac Ha on Saturday after going down to Lao Cai, you can choose a bus to Bac Ha among several buses(the final bus to Bac Ha 15:00pm--it's enough).

>Is there any bus from Bac Ha to Lao Cai on Sunday afternoon? We have to catch the 20.35 train to Hanoi
---i haven't visted Bac Ha recent years so i'm not sure about bus servive now exactly but estimating from bus service <Lao Cai to Bac Ha>, it's nothing problem for your returning to Lao Cai afternoon and taking night train to Ha Noi.

(remark)
New Lao Cai bus station(=3km south of old Lao Cai bus station) had been completed last year and i'm not sure about the newest relation between 2 and their bus services of each, so please check and confirm it for yourself when you go to Lao Cai.

I guarantee about my option is the best!

Just how can you guarantee this is the best for the OP just because this is the tour you offer?.
