Hello, i will be travelling to sapa and will likely reach sapa on 09 June 2018. i hope to do a 1 day hike up to fansipan and get down before sunset on 10 Jun 2018. it seems you must have a guide to hike up there and will probably have to engage one from the travel agency.

i am looking around here to see if anybody will also be going on the same date? any tips for a cheap guide?

The FSP in one day under 30° or more + 99% humidity ? Even in 2 days, you need an extremely good physical condition (1600 m vertical in the jungle !). And strenuous as it is, there is no "cheap" guide !

Hey, I am going to be in Vietnam for virtually all of June and likely to be in Sapa the same time you are. If you fancy meeting up and doing a few hikes/exploring a bit let me know!

Just bring enough water, you'll be fine. It's not a big deal if you don't have existing health issues.
But unless I'm mistaken, there's a ton of people hiking that. Why pay a guide? Just follow everyone. (unless it's a local "rule".)

completed my trip in sapa. failed to hike up fansipan as it was raining throughout. did hike alone around the different places and the furthest i walked away from he town was 20km, in the the northwest direction. it has stunning hills and views. but the town itself is badly maintained and polluted. hiring a scooter will be a good way to travel futher and see more.
