Hi fellow travellers! We are travelling around SE Asia for a few months and have allowed 4/5 days in the Mekong with our 4 year old and 1 year old, plus my father - before flying from Can Tho to Phu Quoc. We will be leaving from HCMC (where we will have already spent three days).

We are trying to work out what route to take from HCMC to Can Tho (to catch a flight to Phu Quoc) with 2 children - we have 4 or 5 nights.

We would like to do a private tour as we are 4 adults and 2 small children (4 years and 1 year). We are considering either:
Option 1: Ben Tre - Vinh Long - Sa Dec- Can Tho
Option 2: Cai Be - Ving Long - Sa Dec - Can Tho

What towns should we stay in and for how long (are we better to do 2 nights in a couple of locations, or move daily?) - any other sights/towns that are must sees?

Any advice most welcome. Thank you!

2 nights on island in Vinh Long and 2 nights in Can Tho before flying Can Tho to Phu Quoc.

The distances are not big so the real question is how you feel as a family about moving on each day (packing and unpacking) v/s the option of taking day trips from a base.

Do a search for my post (cabs985) entitled Mekong Delta Trip Report. We started in Can Tho and ended in Ben Tre before heading to HCMC, but the trip could be done in reverse the way you would like to do it. You may find some information in my report that will help you in planning your route. We definitely recommend the boat trip we took in Ben Tre, as well as the hotel we stayed in. Enjoy your trip!
