I LOVE Vietnamese coffee.
The coffee culture is very prevalent in Vietnam. Of course, as once a French colony, such a culture makes sense, however, Vietnam is also the world’s 4th largest exporter of coffee. The order being Brazil first, next Colombia, Indonesia and then Vietnam - so the two factors go hand in hand. We always asked - in our best Vietnamese :) – if we could please have the milk on the side, and not sweetened but with fresh milk. That worked about 50 / 50 …. But always, that coffee was fabulous !!

I also LOVED the Vietnamese fruit shakes – some with yoghurt and some with milk. So good and thick, one could easily take care of lunch or dinner. Did I also tell you that I loved the food - that it was often absolutely delicious ? :)

Sorry to inject this into what was otherwise a very delightful report, but I'm always amazed at how many people buy into some of the myths about Agent Orange. Herbicides are not persistent, and foliage grows back quickly.

Newly seeded stuff is very low growth - the old tall dense forest is gone.
A dense forest was the reason to use that stuff, to eliminate hiding spots.

Consider just where Agent Orange is being approved - for Agricultural use.
Consider the why they are being outlawed - one after the other.

Unfortunately, it is no myth re the illnesses of mankind that have come about from this stuff - and are being born into the next generation. This involves all force members and peoples of the land. The herbicides are very persistent.

TCDD is not found in nature, but rather is a man-made and always unwanted byproduct of the chemical manufacturing process. The Agent Orange used in Vietnam was later found to be extremely contaminated with TCDD.

wildbill - I am sorry - but I do not wish to go into this here. The political forum previously on TT, is now in Political Stew. And there are excessively reliable sources on the net on this matter.

A lot of the time fresh milk in Vietnam is sweetened. I found the best way of having coffee was to order caphe den (black) and supply my own milk (Kong duong- without sugar) which i became quite good at finding (4000vnd for 250g). I used to like the condensed milk, but only as iced coffee now - Caphe sua da (iced milk coffee).

We have been using a Bodum Chambord for years and do have great coffee. However, I wish to purchase the Vietnamese single cup coffee filters - just for the pleasure of the use - and share with friends. I’ll have a look about this weekend.

Perhaps I might even find Vietnamese coffee - being a seaport maybe I'll be in luck. Crossing my fingers :)

I agree - Laos coffee is fantastic. I love the Arabica taste, and especially to sip in early morning when in Luang Prabang.

And sweetened milk, especially the condensed milk – is just not our preference for anything. But each to his own.

celestine.... no, no weasel coffee. hehehe. though every time we went to a coffee shop they really tried to get us to have the weasel. We got Trung Nguyen#1 it was my fave. Apparently it is their weakest, but its super strong compared to the coffee at home. Laos is definately on the agenda so I will make sure to sample the brew :-)

Then why did you make the statement in the first place? You must know that it is a controversial subject. And then, why did you go into it at length again, and then say that you didn't want to go into it?

TCDD?? Ask Mr Yuschenko. He received a dose thousands of times the normal exposure and developed .....gasp......acne.
Or the people in Serveso Italy who received a massive exposure following an industrial accident. Many years have passed and there is no evidence of health effects, including birth defects.
