I have a full day ahead in Ho Chi Minh. Would appreciate it if I could get inputs as to whether I should spend the full day visiting the War Remnants Museums and the other museums, together with the temples and markets OR spend half a day visiting the Cu Chi tunnels and then the rest of the HCM sites (whatever I can manage) in the second half of the day. Basically, my question is whether I should spend more time in HCM for that one day? Is Cu Chi worth the half day compared to the other HCM sites? What's in Cu Chi that made it memorable for you?

Thanks much in anticipation

yes early am tour Cuuchi tunnels then around 1130 after they will drop you off at the war museum. Both a must
I thought cuuchi was an inetresting experience as to how viet cong managed to live under the noses of the American forces and also the cruelty attached to their booby traps a reminder of the horrors of war, the only thing I thought disturbing was the shooting range at the Cuuchi tunnels,

I'd stay in Saigon. Do a half day visiting the War Museum, the re- unification palace, the post office and the cathedral. Have lunch. Go out to Cholon and have a look see at daily life.

Cu Chi has become a Disneyland version of the tunnels the Vietcong used.

Thank you all for your inputs. Appreciate it. Answer from HenningWessel was food for thought. Going to carry out a "survey" to see how many think of Cu Chi as Disneyland. What an interesting way to put it

OP where you go and what you do depends on your interests.

Of course :) . But when one is pressed for time, one would appreciate inputs before a decision is made. Nothing much to discuss or compare if one destination is indeed Disneyland and the other is the Natural History Museum. But the museum sites and the historical Cu Chi site are quite "similar" in that they are for historical buffs. Anyway, appreciate the comments. Cheers!

i would prefer not to bother with museums especially monstrous reunification palace but just walk around pham ngu lao and enjoy yourself in street cafes and boulevards.

Cu Chi, given the time you have, is not worth it. Crawl around Saigon instead.

The highlight for me going out to the tunnels was the unannounced stop by the driver to grease the palm of a bone idle motorcycle cop with one eye on the traffic and the other pumping out zeds.

well put!
@#9 palm greasing can be seen anywhere-don't need to go to the tunnels!
