I have been supporting and helping with funding for the university in Saigon, a young lady I met in Doc Leth north of Nha Trang. She has been on her own now for 3 semesters away from home, a small fishing village, oldest of 3, and learning the big city, as well as her studies.
She sent me this note today, and its touching. she went with her classmates to the War Musuem in Saigon for the first time, and this what she wrote me, I am American. In many ways, it shows the spirit I find so rich in Vietnamese. I look forward to seeing her mext month...
Dear Tim-
Hello
Today, Ivisited the historical war museum with my classmates .
It's horrible and cruel, that is also incredible, up to now I have not imaged , and dared to believe, in my eyes , about what I saw . I cried .....
War is cruel, my country nd people paid a very expensive price to have the indepence today
I admire vVetnameses heroes very much . I am proud of my vietnamese blood .
Thanks for your words about my study . Your words are really meaningful to me . I respect that . I promise I will study more and more hard . I hope that I will never make you disappointed
We have not met togather in a long time . I miss you much, How do Imeet you ? haha.... it's very difficult to do that . ok ok ok.... I am all right, I hope that we can meet each other in this May . iI will dream and wish about that hahaha...... please give me a nice smile, when you read this mail . I like to see your smile and when you smile, I happy..haha
I also give you a nice and happy smile now ......

"Don't listen to what the Communists say, but look at what they do."
The famouse quote from Nguyễn Văn Thiệu

She sounds like a lovely young lady who I hope will help lead Vietnam to a brighter future and never have to see anywhere else but in a museum how cruel war is (for everyone involved) and how violent death is ugly and smells. I also hope she never has to fear speaking out against her communist government as too many men and women I met in the south of all ages were, unfortunately, still afraid to do.

Are you bringing all your wedding documents to Vietnam? Clearly she's expecting this.

Hahaha...
So cynical... but that's funny.
This girl seems really cute. Thanks for sharing!

Good for you. Americans owe a large debt for what was done to that country and you are helping to pay it off a smidgen.

haha..no romantic interest at all....she is young and naive, and I am her uncle, and her brother, in her eyes, she says...which is fine with me....
She is really sweet, and had her first love away at school, and it didnt work out, she was crushed, and her emails were as if I was her brother, she was very confused, and i helped her pull it together and move on...and put guys in their place, and VN, thats something of a feat in their culture...haha
Thanks buddaddy...thats kinda the way I feel....
