North Vietnam - Weather considerations

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post here :)

I am leaving Europe next week for a month long travel to Vietnam. Specifically, I want to travel the north part (Hanoi, Ha Giang, Bai tu long, etc). But, this will be my first time in SE Asia and I'm seeing that the weather has become quite unpleasant in the north (every day rain in Hanoi, very humid and 40 degrees on some days).

Would you recommend me to choose another destination (like Indonesia for instance) in these circumstances, or is it still very much a good travel destination despite the heat, humidity and rain?

Perhaps this is something you should have thought of before booking.

If you are in the hills temperature and humidity will be lower

Of course N Vietnam is nicer when it is sunny and dry but then so are most places.

Hi there!

We have been travelling through Vietnam for the last 2.5 weeks and have found the weather to be very changeable. For the first week (mid May) we were on Phu Quoc island where it was hot and humid, with thunderstorms most days. Hanoi was warm (mid 30's) but it didn't rain much and we didn't find it unbearable. Hue last week was rainy but quite a bit cooler, and Danag and Hoi An this last week have been sunny, dry and HOT (like, 35degrees, feeling like 45). So - if you are not used to the heat I would recommend staying away from the central/south coast (which it sounds like you're planning to do anyway).
But I have to say, Vietnam is the most beautiful country and everywhere is so different, I would just go for it but make sure your plans are flexible so you can stay longer in the places you find you love. Best of luck and enjoy!

At this moment Hanoi is over 40C, extremely sunny & no rain,but a few weeks ago very cool, heavy rain in the evening. And I guess the same story for other provinces in the North
