I've heard conflicting things about Nha Trang and don't want to waste valuable days if it's not worthy of a visit.
Can people who have been make a case for going or to avoid to help my decision :)
Current Itinerary:
Hanoi

I didn't really like it there. It is very commercialised and overpopulated with Russians. I saw more signs and menus in Russian here then in English. The White Buddha is nice though and the beach is well maintained.
If I were you I would go to Hue or Da Lat instead of Nha Trang.

I have to say that Hoi An has become incredibly busy, far too many people for the tiny streets. Coach load after coach load of tourist that have landed at the nice new airport from all across Asia. Once upon a time it was indeed a special place but not so much any more.
I suggest going with Da Lat and also look into Phong Nha. As well Sapa is off your list and this is a beautiful natural location.

Nha trang could be a beach city anywhere in the world. The only other travellers I saw were taking advantage of the bouncy castles in the sea. There are big department stores, and all the shops sell Russian style fashion, or dubious looking health supplements. All the menu's are in Russian, the nightclub touts are Russian, as were all the adverts for tours and daytrips. It just wasn't what I was looking for, and reminded me of Pattaya in Thailand. Hoi an is charming despite the tourists, and it is easy to hop on a bicycle and avoid them. Ninh binh, Phong na, Dalat, the Mekong Delta, Mue be or Phu quoc if you want a beach. I would choose any of them before Nha trang.
Agreed. Skip Nha Trang if you can avoid it. Do your beach thing on the beaches near Hoi An, and add a couple of days for Hue instead. It's really close from Hoi An, and Hue is one of the Vietnam must see places. Both places are easy to reach from Danang.
Da Lat, Sa Pa, Phong Nha, etc. All the suggestions from the above posters are better than Nha Trang.

I agree that Nha Trang is probably the least pleasant place on the usual itinerary. Whether you add anything else depends on how many days you have for everywhere else, but Hue is way better than Nha Trang, it's actually my favourite place, but dropping in for a day would be a waste of time. Hanoi deserves plenty of time too.
Nha Trang is a real Jeckyll and Hyde place. It has a stunning Buddhist temple, a lovely cathedral, Cham Towers, a maritime museum and Vinpearl resort.
The rest can be noisy but there are some quieter bars.
I like NT but would prefer Hue and say, Da Lat.
