Hi,

I am planning a trip to Kon Tum, and trying to organise visits to Kon Kotu, Plei Chot, and some other villages.

Kon Kotu: I am unable to contact the Kon Kotu homestay. Mostly their number (found on the net) gives an error message (telling me the number does not exist), and once it did come through but the person couldn't speak any English or French. So I google-translated my request into Vietnamese and texted it - still no response...

Plei Chot: described by the Michelin guide as a "must see", notably for its cemetery with wooden statues. But I am unable to find anyone willing to take me there. One agency said that 'the village changed religion and the cemetery is no longer nice' - seems quite odd... Another one told me we couldn't go there because of political unrest, apparently the police won't let us go there. And they mentioned that for some other villages we also need to ask for police permission to go there.

Other proposed villages are: Plei Kép, Pleitonghia, Konrobang, Konhngokotu, Kon Bil (Sodra people), Kon Du village (Jolong people).

Can someone recommend what to see? I only have 2 days, and want to spend the night in Kon Kotu which is supposed to be the most beautiful.

Also, if someone knows a good guide, I would appreciate a contact.

Best,

Alan

"One agency" is completely idiotic !!!!! These are tribal cemeteries, which will never change ! This said, it is true that, to go to some villages, you need a police permit because of PAST unrest from locals who were fed up that their best land was taken over by big companies to develop coffee plantations

Yes, I agree. Fake excuse. But apparently no one wants to take me to Plei Chot so there must be a reason: unrest?
Do you know any local guide who could help?

Generally speaking, the Viets do not like to ask anything to the Police. Maybe you can ask your hotel receptionist
