Personally, I enjoyed greatly my stay in Danang.

It has a pleasant boulevard along the Han River which will take you, if you walk northwards to a photogenic fishing port. The Cham Museum is worth a visit as too, is the Cao Dai temple.

It is a working town and not a tourist hot spot so to do trips away you may need to hire a taxi to say, the Marble Mountains, Cham Temples at My Son, and even Hoi An.

Also, the locals are very friendly and chatty, probably because it is not a tourist town. You will be something of a welcome oddity in some parts of the town.

Arrived in Danang late and had a hard time getting anyone at the airport to use a meter. Went to the hotels listed in lonely plant and the budget ones were closed or despite the empty parking lots were "full" with only the most expensive 50 dollar room available. Finally, taxi driver found a place on the rive for 10 just left of the bridge. Clean, with ac.

Did not like Danang until found the folks at Bread of Life, about two blocks north of the Cham museum. They hire deaf staff. (I teach deaf kids, and no the sign language is not the same). And hearing disabled folk to take your order. Got to see a whole other side of Vietnamese life, a kinder flow that was not in my face about selling. Food was good. Place was spotless. They also run Pizza Plus on Le Hong Phong, another "project to benefit the deaf."

If you want beach, Danang has beach. Just have to hunt for the cheap rooms. Tan Minh is open. Gueshouse 34 is closed. Bach Dang Hotel is closed. My Khe Beach Hotel wanted 48. And it currently really is 12 bucks to Hoi An by taxi.
